RV insurance helps protect your motorhome, camper, or trailer in the case of unforeseen circumstances like an accident or severe weather conditions. When shopping insurance companies, make sure to take into consideration the class of RV, how often you’ll use it (for seasonal travel or full-time residence), and the minimum requirements mandated by your state. Some companies may have lower premiums but are best suited for part-time RVers and don’t cover as much in personal property.
We chose companies that offer the standard auto coverage as well as RV-specific insurance. We also looked for insurers that cover as many RV types as possible, both motorized and towable. A full-time RV insurance policy is required when you use your RV as your primary residence or if you spend more than 6 months a year driving the vehicle. For those that aren’t full-time RVers , a policy meant for recreational use should suffice.

Due to their size, it isn’t ideal to use a Class A Motorhome as your primary vehicle once you reach your destination. For this reason you’ll see most of these RV’s towing a vehicle. Having purchased our plan and paid our premium, we left town for a month on vacation and came home to a notice that the company had cancelled our policy. I was out of town and hospitalized and my insurance lapsed by 2 DAYS. FOREMOST AARP would not reinstate my insurance and I had to have a new policy rewritten, for the same insurance the price was over $300.00 more a year. I have had insurance with Foremost for over 12 years at this location and never filed a claim.

Replacement Cost – You have the choice of getting the full replacement cost, or just the actual value of the trailer. In my opinion, it’s worth paying to get the full replacement cost, so if you wreck your trailer 3 years from now, you get a new trailer instead of the value of your depreciated trailer. Simple Insurance can help you obtain business insurance quotes that are quick, accurate, and affordable.
Eight years insured, and when boat sinks, tied to dock, $21,000 claim rejected for exclution of water sinking boat. I drove without insurance insurance rv until something in the back of my mind told me to check. AAA would not insure me because of the age of the house I inherited.
Apparently Foremost likes to sell “$1k deductibles” that are actually $1k for fire, and $2500 for wind and hail. So $10k in damage – $2500 deductible(I’m paying for $1k deductible though), and they’re offering to pay $922 total claim. They’re arguing that some of the $10k came from a different storm.

That said, full-time RVers will have access to important coverage like personal liability insurance and medical payments to third parties who are hurt while visiting your RV. Some homeowners insurance policies will cover the possessions you keep in your camping trailer, but they do not cover the trailer itself. That’s why a specialized RV insurance policy is a smart move as it not only protects your asset, but it also fills the gap between what auto and homeowners insurance typically cover.
Complete rip offs. Also double check the numbers on the policy. They collect premiums and automatically deny coverage for any claims. Their fine print in their policy automatically allows them to deny anything. Minium damage to foundation, but was told unless it is major it is not covered and I would have to hire an engineer to prove damage is caused by flooding. I am pretty much convinced it covers nothing if it does not cover foundation damage.
However, if you live in your tiny house full-time, check with an agent to confirm they offer full-timer coverage, as this differs from standard RV coverage. Can’t compare because we have only had NGIC since we began full-time in 2014. Recently we had total loss on both our 5th wheels and major damage to our truck. I love Foremost Insurance I had a car accident on September 20, 2017, just a week after being hit with hurricane Irma. They are completely geared to rejecting claims when you need them the most. Our repair man said they are routinely difficult to do business with. Everyone I talked to in the company gave me a different story. Originally told verbally living expenses are covered–answered questions and got specific verbal approval for motel at x dollars a night, food, additional travel expense, etc. Then after making these expenditures, reimbursement was denied.

Part-time RV users won’t necessarily have their most valuable possessions in their vehicles, and their insurance policies will often include limited or no protection for damage to their personal belongings. RV insurance is a specialized policy, and it’s not as widely offered as other types of insurance such as homeowners and auto. If you decide not to explore our recommended options, here’s a list of other insurance companies that offer RV-specific insurance. Although National General’s complaint ratio suggests the company has customer service issues, its bundling discount makes it one of the most affordable RV insurance providers we found.
We are compensated for referring traffic and business to these companies. The type of Fifth-Wheel I based the quotes off of is a 2019 Heartland Landmark 365 Louisville which costs $79,000. Progressive’s roadside assistance program may come at an additional cost, but it is one of the most complete services of its kind in the industry. Progressive offers many of the features that Millennial RVers should be looking for in an RV insurance policy. The most noteworthy of these is affordability, directly tackling a concern the generation is all too familiar with.
They don’t care and I warn you to avoid doing business with this company. They take your money but they have no honor or integrity. They purposefully avoided acknowledging the storm damage and tried to say the rain damage inside was caused by something else and negligent roof maintenance which is total bull crap. That didn’t even make sense, because everyone knows water falls down, not up. There’s no way the water could have gone where it went if it came in from anyplace other than where I am pointing out the storm damage, yet they refuse to see it. I recommend to the fullest extent that you avoid doing business with this company.
